Mr. Green was the night cleaning crew supervisor at a photography studio when we met. Though we connected professionally via the studio, we exchanged stories, some levity, and he eventually became more interested in my personal life. Candor being his strength, often his albatross, he regularly revealed stories of his own life including the occasional extracurricular soiree. Mr. Green was in his 70’s with a wife, children, a robust professional career, and an active social life, yet he continues to seek peace with the eternal. A contradiction between the struggle to resist temptation and the aspiration toward internal peace exists in all of us. It’s often confused as duplicitous, but character dualism is relevant to humankind regardless of our individual political, social, or religious persuasions. Mr. Green invited me to photograph his ordination as a Baptist Deacon in the spring of 2008.
